Update: Sam Houston Parkway Construction

While a temporary inconvenience, the construction project is designed to ease congestion on the highly-traveled Sam Houston Parkway main lanes and frontage roads. The project is comprised of two components. Under way now are reconstruction and expansion of the frontage roads, widening them from two lanes to three lanes.
 
The current status on the westbound frontage road is:

• Demolition of the westbound temporary lane has begun and will be immediately followed by construction of a new concrete lane.  This should take approximately three months and three new lanes will be open upon completion.
• TxDOT will work with property owners on access to property during construction.

On the eastbound frontage road:

• Demolition of the eastbound temporary lane from east of Imperial Valley to West Hardy has begun and will be replaced with a new concrete lane.  This phase, which should be completed within one month, will provide three new lanes through this area.
• TxDOT will work with property owners on access to property during construction.
• Additional utility issues need to be resolved to complete installation of storm sewer and eventual demo and construction of new lanes from Greenspoint Drive to east of Imperial Valley.

The second component is widening the main lanes and adding two lanes at the Imperial Valley Bridge, as well as re-striping the remaining roadway to accommodate five lanes of traffic.

Once completed, the new road infrastructure will include new sidewalks, new storm drainage system and other amenities. The project is a collaborative effort between the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Texas Sterling is the contractor.
