  New Public Art Graces Greenspoint

A new public art sculpture called “Blowing Sycamore Leaves” was installed at the intersection of  Gears and Greens Parkway.

The sculpture was created by Santa Fe, N.M., artist Kevin Box and features multicolor sycamore leaves. The piece is surrounded by grass and benches and is already being used by the community.

"We are thrilled with this piece," said Sally Bradford, executive director of the Greenspoint Redevelopment Authority. "People are already enjoying their lunch on the benches and  stopping by to admire the work. This is a wonderful addition to the community, and a great attraction for corporations and businesses."

Box said he is pleased with the sculpture and the positive response from the community, adding that he works hard to create art that the general public can embrace and understand.

"My goal is to engage the community that the artwork is going into," said Box. "I want to create artwork that brings people forward in their awareness of art. Making art accessible is really important to me."

Leaves from the sycamore trees surrounding the piece were used to design the sculpture.
